OUTCOME!
This creamy and chunky sandwich is sure to impress people with its healthy contents! Take it together with a glass of fruity smoothie and you’ll feel like you’re in haven. This colourful and sweet dish will definitely attract the youngsters.
However, to make it even more nutritious, I would use wholemeal breads instead of white breads. According to my research, wholemeal breads have a higher content of dietary fibre and iron, providing teenagers with extra goodness and nourishment to start their day! By reducing the number of strawberries and adding more ice cubes helps teenagers to feel refreshed in a tropical country like Singapore.

OUTCOME!
This moist boat appeals to adventurous food lovers as the 100% fat-free Italian dressing leaves a sweet and sour tinge in your mouth. Down it with a glass of Grape Wheat Mix to give your taste buds a nutty, bubbly finish.
However, to appeal to health conscious food lovers, I would replace the ricotta cheese with 2 slices of low fat cheddar cheese and use only 1 crushed wheat biscuit to have a balance of both fruits and wheats. |

a) Evaluate your final product based on taste, mouthfeel, texture and colour.
A simple mixture of mayonnaise and egg produces a strong, smooth, creamy and eggy taste in one’s mouth. The fresh lettuce creates the crunchy factor while the smoothie adds a soft yet chunky touch. A splash of bright colours is produced when served altogether.
b) Did you dish meet the requirements of the coursework question? How so?
It definitely did! The colourful appearance did not go unnoticed and made teenagers like me want to indulge in it. Vegetables, egg and mayonnaise are mixed together to give off a sweet yet healthy touch so that teenagers would not complain about eating the greens. Downing a glass of ice cold smoothie would definitely make their day in this hot country and prevent them from grabbing unhealthy ice cream or popsicles from the refrigerator. This is also a fast and convenient way of having a balanced meal of fruits and vegetables.
c) List down your strengths.
I am a much organised chef as I separated my utensils and ingredients but still within reach. My utensils were on my left and ingredients on my right. They were both arranged according to when I need them. Having going the extra mile to memorise my recipe, I know my dish by heart and have the directions at my finger tips. Knowing the importance of time management, I do my work very systematically and do not waste time referring to and fro my recipe. I also work very fast and efficiently in the kitchen, not taking my own sweet time walking around, searching for ingredients and utensils.
d) List down your weaknesses.
Of course, no one’s good at everything. I considered myself to be a slow worker then it came to deshelling the egg. I had a hard time peeling off the shell as the egg was too hot for me to handle and the small bits and pieces of shells needed close attention to be spotted. I was also forgetful and stubbornly did not refer to my recipe as I didn’t want to waste time. I forgot to spray oil on the backing tray ad to keep a close look out for the cheese to melt slightly. As a result, I had a tough time removing the cheese stains from the baking tray too.
e) If you could do it again, how would you improvise to make it better?
If I could do it again, I would definitely have my recipe in front of me even though I have memorised my facts. This is to ensure that I can refer to it as and when my memory fails me. I would also heed in the good advice of the auntie working in the kitchen, to add oil when boiling the egg. This piece of advice come in handy when deshelling the egg later as it would be much easier. I would also prepare my ingredients for 1 and serve for 1 only, as I have wasted my time preparing a meal for 2, but only presenting a meal for 1. I believe this would give me more time for my washing up and presentation. I would also melt the cheese by itself instead of placing it on top of the bread as the bread would then turn hard difficult to chew.

PART C- EVALUATION OF THE ENTIRE COURSEWORK
a) What aspects of Home Ec did you like?
As I’m a very health conscious person, I like the fact that we got to learn more about healthy living. I really enjoyed the theory lessons we had on healthy eating and cooking! I also like how our coursework relates to a typical teenager’s life as it not only connects to the task, but also makes us interested in it. Having to create our very own dish makes us realise the importance for creativity and knowledge about how to present our dish appropriately, and the about food we use. I also like that we can make use of the internet to do our research as it is what 21 centurions like us do best. I feel more at ease when using the internet rather than having to refer to piles of food book guides. Lastly, we get to taste our own creations and that of others to give comments and exchange ideas as we may want to make that particular dish in future.
b) What aspects of Home Ec did you like?
Sad to say, but I strongly dislike the washing up. I hate getting my hands dirty with the leftover sauces mixed with soap and what not. Furthermore, the stubborn stains on the cooking ware require a lot of scrubbing. I also do not like that we did not have a lot of hands-on lessons to sharpen our cooking skills, and cook more challenging dishes. We also did not get to complete going through the entire contents of the textbook as I find some information there invaluable. For example, it teaches us how to care for our clothes using simple cooking ingredients such as baking powder and lemon, etc.
c) Identify your strengths. Not only in cooking, but the entire coursework.
Again, I cam a very well-organised and orderly person. I have a checklist of everything that I do. I even have one each for my assignment and recipe. I also have a curious mind and always bother to ask when in doubt. I would take the initiative to email my teacher or ask my friends when unsure. I am very proficient in my IT skills as I made us of the different fonts, colours, backgrounds and header and footer for all my researches. I am also good at researching and even scored a 12/15 for my research. I make an effort to not just google blindly for information, but to summarise the main points and check for the reliability. I pay close attention to small details, keeping my research detailed and newsworthy. I am also good at modifying my recipes to suit the task requirements as my modified recipes seem to appeal more to my friends. Personally, it also taste and looks better!
d) Identify your weaknesses. Not only in cooking, but the entire coursework.
I should use my time wisely as I feel that I have spent most of my time taking pictures during my practical exam and not concentrating more on the cooking and presentation of my dish. While doing my research, I tend to get distracted by the advertisements by the side. This is a waste of time and is not keeping me focused on my task. I also find myself not much of a risk-taker. I felt that I have chosen a pretty easy recipe for my practical exam. I also realised my stubbornness when doing the pair work with my friend, insisting that my idea is better and that we should put it down on the paper.
e) List down at least 3 learning points that you have gained for doing this entire coursework.
I have learnt how to care for my Muslim friends by using only halal food in my cooking. Learning to accept other’s religion is very important as we may unintentionally offend them. I have also learnt how to use my imagination and creativity to fuse different ethnic foods together. Simple ethnic herbs and spices can help to improve the colour, taste and aroma of your food. I have also learnt about the various methods of cooking. It is important as it helps me to make informed, healthy cooking choices. For example, I have learnt to consume the leftover stock when boiling as it has water-soluble vitamins dissolved in them. Most importantly, I have learnt how to manage my time well. This can be done by efficient multitasking. From my practical exam, I have learnt that multitasking efficiently is essential to save time. For example, I can cut my bread and melt the cheese while waiting for the water to boil.
